Food Memberships

Meal Memberships Make it Easy: Which One is Right for You?

Most people have a desire to eat a healthy diet. However, cooking at home and eating balanced meals present challenges. Busy schedules make it difficult to plan meals, shop for fresh food, cook and then deal with post-dinner dishwashing. It’s time-consuming, and there’s a learning curve in choosing the recipes that work best for your family’s preferences and dietary needs. That’s where food memberships provide a solution.

To answer this problem, a new industry has exploded in recent years: The Meal Membership. These memberships offer convenience and variety by charging a weekly or monthly fee to deliver food and meals to your door from their special menu.

Benefits
The benefits of these memberships are many. Great recipes and creative food combinations are offered, plus different scheduling options add to the appeal. The packaging makes the food easy to prepare and easy to clean up. The food is typically high quality and shipping is often free.

Bummers
On the downside, there is some management involved, such as pausing deliveries for out-of-town travel or switching your menu. Meal memberships can also be a little more expensive than doing your own grocery shopping.

Best Options
With these factors in mind, I often counsel my patients working on weight management that meal and food memberships are a helpful resource, even if only for a limited time period.

Dozens of options exist, but how do you know which one is right for you? Here are a few of my favorites:

Daily Harvest: Smoothies to soups, Daily Harvest will help you eat your veggies. They offer organic, clean, sustainably-sourced products without dairy, gluten, gums, fillers or artificial additives. Food arrives frozen to maintain freshness.

Butcher Box: Quality, lean protein is important to your nutrition. They offer 100% grass-fed beef, free-range organic chicken, humanely raised pork and wild-caught seafood in eco-friendly packaging.

Green Chef: This well-rounded membership has a variety of diet options to help you reach your goals. Menu plans include keto + paleo, Mediterranean, vegan, low carb and more. Discount codes and special offers make this a budget-friendly option.

As the holidays approach, healthy eating can take a back seat. Starting a food membership now can help you stay balanced through the parties and treats. When January comes around, you’ll be in a strong position for a healthier new year.
